What Happens During Residential Window Installation Atlanta?
Having new windows installed in your Atlanta home helps improve energy efficiency through features like low-E coatings, superior protection thanks to multipoint locking systems, and much more. However, you should not forget that residential window installation Atlanta involves multiple steps and can be a daunting process. Knowing what happens during the process makes all the difference for homeowners. We believe you have also planned a window installation. If so, read this blog and make your experience stress-free and more manageable.
Steps of Window Installation
We explain the complete window installation in 10 steps. Read them and learn what happens during the process.
Step 1: Preparation and Protection
Window installers know that protecting your property is essential. That’s why they drape furniture, lay down tarps, and set pads on the window sills to catch unexpected broken glass pieces and falling debris.
Step 2: Extraction
Next, they heat the old sealant and carefully extract the glass using special glazing suction cups.
Step 3: Remove Window Components
Then the installers cut the caulking and remove components, including the balancing system, the operable sash, and the horizontal locking bar.
Step 4: Clean & Prepare Opening
After removing the window components, installers thoroughly clear the opening using a vacuum. Old mortar, caulking, nails, and insulation are all removed.
Step 5: Set the New Window In Place
Next, installers place the new window in its designated location and align it using composite shims, then attach the window to the structure of the house.
Step 6: Insulate Around the Exterior of the Frame
The crew uses a commercial foaming gun with a fine needlepoint to reach gaps, no matter how small they are. Then they apply expanding foam insulation and create a strong seal that blocks air and water.
Step 7: Clean Window
Window installers let the foam expand and thoroughly clean the glass and frame in the meantime.
Step 8: Backer ROD
If the gap to be filled is 3/8 of an inch or wider, installers apply a backer rod. It provides a firm foundation for the sealant.
Step 9: Apply Sealant Adhesive
The sealant is the first line of defense against wind, rain, and other harsh elements. Window installers understand this well, so they use a sealant/adhesive to provide long-term protection.
Step 10: Clean the Job Site
After each window is installed properly, the crew cleans the work site and removes debris.
